Luang Pho Khun, Luang Pu To, and Luang Pho Khao: The Centers of Buddhist Faith in Nakhon Ratchasima



When Wat Ban Rai in Dan Khun Thot district of Nakhon Ratchasima is mentioned, most Thai people know that it is the residence of the Venerable Luang Pho Khun Parisuttho, one of the most revered monks in Thailand. Some people believe that it will be a good luck for them if they offer Luang Pho Khun to 'knock' their heads.
While heading along Mittraphap Raod in Sikhio district, visitors will discover another attraction, where they may pay homage to the world's largest figure of the Venerable Somdet Putthachan (To Phromrangsi), referred to as Luang Pu To. This religious structure is located in the Somdet Phutthachan Foundation area. Sorapong Chatri, a famous movie actor, is the chairman of this foundation, and he initiated the construction of this figure. Apart form appreciating the architectural beauty of the figure, visitors will also see a concrete pavilion with a mother-of-pearlinlay roof coated with glittering gold. A small garden is arranged there as a recreational center for all visitors.



Down to the Khao Si Siat Ah area in Kiang Dong subdistrict in Pak Chong district, a white large Buddhist figure is found on an overhanging rock in the middle of green trees and bushes. This figure is commonly known as Luang Pho Khao, which was royally bestowed the name of Phra Buddha Sakon Sima Mongkhon. After turning to an asphalt road and driving for about three kilometers, you will find Wat Thep Phithak Punnaram, a tranquil temple. When you look up, you will see the figure of Luang Pho Khao, made of concrete with a weight of 3,000 metric tonnes. A long stair with 1,250 staircases leads to the 112-meter-high figure.Luang Pho Khun, Luang Pu To, and Luang Pho Khao of Nakhon Ratchasima are comparable to spiritual greatness in the hearts and minds of the people who travel unceasingly to pay homage to the figures.
