Phra Thong Island locates at Phra
Thong sub-district, Khura Buri district, Phang-nga province. It has a large area of plateau with white sand beach on the west side on the Andaman sea. Nearby are Piing and Por Ta islands where under sea filled with shallow reef. In the middle of the island is a Semed glove plain. The scenery there is very captively beautiful in the morning and afternoon light. On the east side of the island lies the mangroves and swamp areas.
The island is the 5th largest island in Thailand and is able to maintain its unique flourish biodiversities such as savannah plain, Samed glove plain and mangroves. There are also variety of wildlife, for example, deer, boar, southern species monkey, sea birds and other endangered species. In the sea, dugongs
were found while they were searching for food near the island, as well as several types of turtles - Mafueng, Ya and Tanu tortoises, who regularly lay eggs on the beach. Sea water crocodiles were sighted there too.
To get there: you could board a ferryboat either at the pier of the Surin Island National Park office or at the nearby Khura Buri Green View Resort pier. It takes less than an hour to reach Phra Thong where you could hire a camping tent at the office of Koh Ra-Phra Thong National Park, at a cost of 100-200 baht a night.
